MAY CONTAIN NUTS
Have you ever thought how silly it is to see the warning "may contain nuts" on a packet of nuts?
Wonder why it ended up there? – One person sued a company for personal injuries because they suffered a reaction when eating nuts.
Now, you might think that someone who buys a packet of nuts knows that they contain nuts. It would be a reasonable expectation. The thing is, consumer protection laws do not credit the every day member of the public with much brains.
You are considered responsible for how the public use your products. Whether what they do is reasonable or not.
You can use disclaimers to get out of some responsibility. Hense the "may contain nuts" warning. The wide variety of other things that you can do to protect your business from being sued by members of the public, is all the things we have been talking about the last few weeks and probably will for a few more.
